Petition: better music for Dune’s sequel

The general consensus on the recent movie Dune is this: the movie is spectacular, and that it deserved way better music than it got.

Especially considering that Hans Zimmer (Star Wars guy) wrote the score, its quality is crushingly disappointing: combining the average orchestra ensemble with cheesily “otherworldly” sounds and a weird suite of meaningless, confusing vocalizations.

Since I saw the (otherwise awesome) movie, I’ve been getting the vibe that I’m not alone in this opinion. I’m not sure if you agree, but it seems to me that such music as has been composed does this film a great injustice, by taking a story that is timeless, unique, and elevated, and bringing it down to the level of your average sci-fi film.

Okay. I’ll stop complaining now. However, I think that many of us are quietly hoping that Dune 2 and Dune 3 will have found a source for better music. A story as great as Dune, of all things, does not require the support of traditional Hollywood music. So here’s my (humble) idea: we get Polyphia to participate in Dune 2.

You may or may not have heard of Polyphia, whose song G.O.A.T. went viral a few years ago. If you haven’t heard it, do yourself a favor by listening to it. Then imagine if it were the soundtrack for Dune.

If you’re in or have ideas, plz comment, etc.

BTW: All this is said with respect for the awesome crew making the Dune trilogy. Of course, I wouldn’t claim to know everything about this myself. This is my idea, meant for the benefit of everyone.
